    How large are the eyes of anime/manga characters?

    Take Shana in Figure 1 as an example. She is set to be \(141\,\mathrm{cm}\) tall.[1] On this set of axes her height is about 16 \(y\)-axis units.

    Line segment \(a\) which approximates the diameter of the eye (approximating the eye as a circle) has length \(\approx 0.5\) \(y\)-axis units. This gives an approximation of the diameter of the eye as \( \frac{141 \times 0.5}{16} = 4.4\,\mathrm{cm} \), corresponding to an area of about \(15\,\mathrm{cm}^2\).

    As a comparison, my left eye is \(3.5\,\mathrm{cm}\) long and \(1\,\mathrm{cm}\) wide. Approximating it as an ellipse, this corresponds to an area of less than \(3\,\mathrm{cm}^2\).

    BC Speech Day

    Statement on the Defamatory Quote in the Brighton College Speech Day Publication

    Page 11 of the Brighton College 2015 Speech Day booklet contains a false quote of my “best moment”. While I submitted my best moment as “putting up posters about Mr Klimentov in the Maths department”, the said publication quotes it as “Clinics with Mr Klimentov in the maths department”.

    In addition to the said activity not being my best moment, the activity of me attending a maths clinic has never happened within my two-year career in this school. The use of a plural in “clinics” makes this quote even more inaccurate.

    The quote may lead to the false conclusion that I need to attend Maths clinics, and may in turn lead others to falsely conclude that I am unable to cope with the A-level Maths / Further Maths syllabus without extra help from clinics. I strongly condemn this act of defamation, and demand the editorial team to never perform this act of utter disrespect in upcoming publications.
